Foodpanda: Delivered by Rocket Internet
Rocket Internet continues to target all possible avenues for revenues. SG Entrepreneurs identified the tell-tale signs of a Rocket Internet campaign, and nailed them on the office location here in Singapore. Foodpanda joins the list of sites in the Samwer brothers’ Southeast Asian encroachment: Wimdu, Pinspire, Zalora and Lazada.
Foodpanda is a food delivery service launched in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. The well laid-out site is simple to use and understand. To order food, key in your postal address, browse the list of restaurants for your area, select your orders from the restaurant menu, enter your delivery address plus contact information and then click Place Order Now. You will get an SMS for your food’s ETA. No more phone calls! Some people might want credit card payment option on the site, but I prefer COD.
For now, the list of partner restaurants is a bit thin (51 restos), but I expect this list to grow as word gets out and people suggest their favorite restaurants for Foodpanda to contact. In Singapore, Foodpanda comes up against Hungrydelivery.com (the delivery arm of HungryGoWhere) and Singapore Dine (another newcomer) in terms of the concept of multiple restaurants under one site. But the island state is replete with food delivery services from giant fast food chains to bistros to supermarket chains. As long as the personal details you save in Foodpanda are kept safe, its online ordering system will definitely catch on.
