Ricoh Asia Pacific commits to using 100pc clean energy by 2019

IMAGING and electronics company Ricoh Asia Pacific has committed to using 25 percent renewable energy at its Singapore’s regional office starting June, increasing to 100 percent by 2019.

The Asia-Pacific division of the Japanese multi-national company made the announcement after Ricoh Company announced new environmental goals to strengthen its commitment to fostering sustainability in business and society in April.

Ricoh Group committed to using a minimum of 30 percent renewable energy by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2050.

The Singapore regional office says it will be using 50 percent renewable energy in 2018, moving to 100 percent the year after.

Ricoh Asia Pacific managing director Kazuhisa Goto first made the announcement during the Eco Action Day Circular Economy Industry Roundtable, an environmental event organised by Ricoh Asia Pacific in June and attended by Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State of Singapore’s Environment and Water Resources Ministry and Health Ministry.

The company says it wants to create new markets and value propositions by looking broadly at social issues as well as take on the challenge to resolve them while simultaneously achieving social development and Ricoh’s own business growth.

“As the regional headquarter in the Asia-Pacific region, we recognized business activities depended greatly on natural resources and the global ecosystems,” he said.

 “We also realized environmental issues such as global warming and limited natural resources present both risks and opportunities for businesses, so it important for us to strive for a balance on conservation activities with business sustainability to ensure the betterment of the environment.”

Ricoh is the first Japanese company to join the RE100, a group of influential companies that havcommitted to 100 percent renewable power.
