The Jabra Evolve2 Buds

Review: Jabra Evolve2 Buds – True wireless earbuds engineered for hybrid working

Article by Nathan Hew

COVID-19 has redefined the way we view work. In a 2022 global report by Jabra titled “Hybrid Ways of Working“, 80% of all meetings were either fully virtual or hybrid. 52% of employees surveyed prefer a more flexible working model post pandemic, according to McKinsey’s survey findings

In this, younger workers, such as Gen Zs, consider their “office” to be their laptop, headset, and places with strong internet connection. “The world we live in today has made us crave freedom and flexibility to work from anywhere,” said Agnes Koh, Product Marketing Manager for APAC. “With all that in mind, we sought to create a product with our new Jabra Evolve2 Buds to empower professionals to look, sound and be professional on the go.”

The Jabra Evolve2 Buds is one of the latest editions of Jabra’s Evolve series. Portable and pocketable, these wireless earbuds are engineered for hybrid working. With this, you could start a sales pitch from your kitchen, call from a co-working space or fit the status meetings around your daily walks with minimal distractions.

With 33 hours of battery life (including the charging case) and fine-tuned 6mm speaker, its compact and lightweight fit design ensures all-day comfort.

Tech Wire Asia had the opportunity to try out the new earbuds. Here’s our review.

Jabra Evolve2: A powerful tool for work and play

These wireless buds are designed to accommodate the need for hybrid working. Like the Jabra Elite 4, its advanced Bluetooth Multipoint connection allows users to connect to two devices at once — perfect for those who need to switch to mobile if they are in a meeting on their laptop.

The best part? Jabra Evolve2 operates on Bluetooth 5.2, offering users a wireless range of up to 20 meters (65 feet). The buds come with a professional-grade USB adapter — a feature that does not come with non-certified headphones. It does help to provide a more stable connection and a significantly better experience on unified communications (UC) platforms.

In our usage, we were able to switch between Spotify on the mobile device to the laptop for a call on Microsoft Teams seamlessly. The speakers and microphone on the Jabra Evolve2 provided clear and sharp audio.

What’s more, the Evolve2 Buds are certified for apps like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom. This means that users not only enjoy customer service support from Jabra, but also Google, Microsoft and Zoom.

Jabra Evolve2: Slick design, maximum comfort

In terms of user comfort, the earbuds are perfect for short work calls or listening to music for an extended period. Its discreet design also gives a professional look, ideal for those who want to unwind on the train before they start work or listen to some tunes after a hectic work week.

Pair this with Active Noise Cancellation, and users get a winning combination of a snug, noise-isolating fit. Its noise cancellation feature is adequate to block most background noises (including noises on a busy train commute) for increased focus.

There is an option to disable ANC. By doing so, the earbuds switch to Hear Through mode. Users can converse while wearing the earbuds, although, in our experience, it might be better to talk with your colleagues or friends without the earbud.

When using only one earbud, we found that the sound quality does not deteriorate. This further stretches the battery life of the Evolve 2 Buds, which already offers a great runtime.

Jabra MultiSensor Voice is a unique combination of four microphones, bone conduction sensors, and advanced algorithms to block out as much of the surrounding noise as possible so the user can be heard clearly by those on the call, contributing to more focused conversation experiences.

Sound+ app

Jabra’s Sound+ app is packed with a number of unique features. Apart from being to toggle the ANC function, users can customize the sound profile of their wireless earbuds based on their preferences. The preset settings in the app work perfectly for both work and leisure usage.

The MyFit allows users to further customize the fit of their earbuds according to their ear profiles. We found that it helped to optimize our audio experience, improve the active noise cancellation, and feel a deeper bass.

At the same time, users can also update their devices with the app through its automatic updates or locate their earbuds.

Is it worth it?

Given its pricing, the Jabra Evolve2 Buds is a higher-end wireless earbud that would serve as the ideal listening device for hybrid workers who want to use the same earbuds for both work and leisure. That said, the price point may deter those looking for a budgeted option like the Jabra Elite series.

Its seamless switching capabilities between devices, clear audio for conversations, slick design, fast connectivity, and long battery life are some factors that make this earbud a good investment for earbud lovers.
