What does VidCon expect to achieve at its debut event in Singapore?

VidCon, the world’s largest conference for online video and digital creators, is coming to Singapore this year and will be hosted alongside the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) Singapore Media Festival.

Acquired by Viacom last year, the event in Asia is being produced by Branded — an award-winning company within the Dentsu Aegis Network portfolio.

“[…] We are extremely excited to launch VidCon in Asia. Singapore is the perfect location for us to make our debut in the region – it is a vibrant media hub with a solid digital infrastructure and strong support from bodies such as the IMDA,” said Viacom International Media Networks APAC President and MD Mark Whitehead.

Branded’s CEO Jasper Donat and his team have been working for more than six months now to bring the event to life.

“VidCon is a completely unique gathering of global and Asian online video industry leaders sharing the stage with online stars who have built extremely successful careers around themselves,” Donat told Tech Wire Asia.

VidCon CEO Jim Louderback believes that there are many talented and wonderfully creative individuals across Asia who are building great communities around the content they make.

“This conference provides a pathway to help those creators build bigger businesses, reach more people and leverage the algorithms of the platforms they’re working on. By celebrating and supporting brands and agencies who work with these creators, it allows them to turn their hobby into a job. Or as I like to say, from advocation to vocation,” explained Louderback.

Over the past decade, VidCon has built a reputation for bringing together amazing speakers from around the world.

At this year’s VidCon Asia in Singapore, for example, Amelia Darawan from Totem in Australia is coming to impart some of the lessons she’s learned about video and to talk broadly about media channels today.

Derral Eves, known for his ability to decrypt YouTube’s algorithms for success, is also a speaker at the event and will help people understand how to build lasting businesses on YouTube.

Lastly, digital marketer Jeremy Vest will be at the event and will explain the art behind thumbnails on videos, sharing insights he’s gained from the clients he’s worked with thus far.

Event organizers Branded have roped in more than 40 speakers thus far and believe that there’s plenty of interesting opportunities for everyone looking to attend — including companies, who can learn about what really needs to be done in 2020 in order to capture attention and make the most of their marketing budget via digital.

“We have been huge fans and admirers of VidCon for many years. I’m looking forward to almost two full days of great content and networking,” said an excited Donat.

Some of the most interesting speakers this year include:

  • Jenny Li (Head Of Creators – Facebook APAC)
  • Howie Lau (Chief Industry Development Officer – IMDA)
  • Seunghae Ahn (Vice General Manager – Baidu Haokan Video)
  • Saurabh Doshi (Head Of Entertainment Partnerships – Facebook APAC)
  • Sadaf Zarrar (Director, Integrated Content & Creative Excellence – Coca-Cola)
  • Nicci Meek (Strategic Partner Manager, APAC – Instagram)
  • Tejas Apte (Global Media Director – Unilever)
