A center of excellence (CoE) brings people from different disciplines together and provides shared facilities/resources. This is great for both large and small organizations with multiple in-house teams that can benefit from working with external teams.
Last week, Singapore multinational National Computer Systems (NCS) launched the NCS NEXT Cloud CoE in Melbourne, Australia. It aims to provide support and accelerate cloud initiatives for governments and enterprises.
The CoE will also integrate ICT and digital services among Australian clients in a variety of industries and government sectors, transforming how organizations operate.
According to a statement, it will also facilitate expertise exchange and deepen collaboration between Singapore and Australia, helping both cities build up their cloud expertise in a competitive talent market.
What’s NCS NEXT Cloud CoE?
Generally, centers of excellence improve leadership, promotes best practices, skills, techniques, research, support, and/or training across various areas. As experts are involved, there is also an opportunity for thought leadership and direction.
NCS NEXT aims to help organizations in Australia transform their operating methods so that they are able to provide better support for their customers, become more competitive, and succeed in the digital economy.
NCS also launched the “NEXT Innovation Triangles”, with nodes in Singapore, Melbourne, and Shenzhen which can utilize the unique advantages of each city to increase the number of talents, clients, and innovations.
The NEXT Cloud CoE is also designed to simplify cloud services for both customers and employees.
Supporting the tech and startup ecosystems
As part of its Asia Pacific expansion, this move by NCS comes at a great time as Australia recently announced its plans to make it the startup capital of the world.
Compared to other countries in the Asia Pacific, Australia is not known as a startup capital, much less for tech innovation.
However, the Tech Council of Australia (TCA) aims to attract tech startups to form and launch in the country. It also aims to employ one million people by 2025 and grow the value of the tech industry to US$250 billion by 2031.
The Head of NEXT Solutions, Andre Conti, mentioned that the pace of digitalization in both public and commercial sectors is increasing, which will change and transform the way Australians live and work.
With the NEXT center of excellence, Australian telco Optus Enterprise and NCS can enhance the efficiency of Australian enterprises and government agencies, and leverage cloud-based innovations which will give them a competitive advantage and improve the experiences of customers and citizens.
NCS expects that about 80% of Australian enterprises will shift to cloud-centric infrastructures and applications, making network complexity much less of an issue.
This is because the system itself optimizes the application deployment and operation by reducing the number of nodes and alternative paths in a computer network. Ergo, the enterprises will be able to focus on other aspects, allowing them to bring greater value to their company.
Moreover, to promote the growth of cloud-heavy businesses in Australia, NCS also plans to increase and create digital-related jobs by increasing the local team in Victoria. Some of their training content includes innovation, AI, 5G-enabled IoT applications, advanced analytics, and of course, cloud.
Digitalization at the center of excellence
Due to the pandemic, movement restrictions imposed by governments have stalled business-as-usual, reducing revenue more many. However, digitalization is an aspect that businesses and enterprises should not neglect. In order to adapt and survive, businesses have to digitalize in order to remain competitive.
