Lenovo and AMD: Navigating digital transformation and sustainability in the APAC region

  • Lenovo showcased its latest PC and Chromebook offerings at MWC 2023, prioritizing system performance, sustainable material usage, and overall user experience improvements.
  • Lenovo’s TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) offering provides organizations with flexible payment options and the ability to scale their IT infrastructure according to their evolving business needs.

In today’s digital economy, staying up-to-date with the latest trends in digital transformation is crucial for businesses to remain agile and competitive.

To help CIOs make informed IT investments, Lenovo and AMD have released an InfoBrief called the ‘CIO Technology Playbook 2023.’ This report highlights the opportunities, challenges, and considerations associated with digital transformation. According to the report, by 2027, organizations in the APAC region are expected to generate up to 43% of their revenue from digitally connected products, services, and customer experiences, underscoring the need for businesses to implement technologies that enable them to operate more efficiently.

The Playbook is based on a survey of over 900 CIOs and IT decision-makers in the APAC region. The findings indicate that CIOs are worried about macroeconomic factors that could impact business growth in 2023 and early 2024, with high inflation being the top concern for 53% of respondents. Other significant challenges include high energy and raw material prices.

In line with increasing demand for productivity and sustainability, Lenovo has unveiled its latest PC and Chromebook offerings at MWC 2023, prioritizing system performance, sustainable material usage, and overall user experience improvements. Lenovo’s design and engineering teams have spent thousands of hours researching manufacturing, materials, energy efficiency, and packaging innovations to produce more sustainable products. Lenovo is also investing in a more sustainable global supply chain, increasing the use of sustainable aviation fuel and biofuels for shipping, installing renewable energy in its factories, and adopting state-of-the-art, energy-efficient manufacturing processes to reduce carbon emissions.

Staying true with sustainability in the digital transformation era

Lenovo encourages its customers to meet sustainability goals through CO2 Offset Service and Asset Recovery Service. The ThinkPad portfolio introduces updated and new models that enhance one of the most comprehensive laptop portfolios available, with increased use of recycled materials and Post Consumer Content (PCC) plastic in select components, supporting a circular economy and Lenovo’s goal of integrating post-consumer recycled content into 100% of PC products by 2025.

According to Sumir Bhatia, the President of Lenovo ISG in Asia Pacific, the coming year is expected to be tough due to economic fluctuations and the acceleration of digital transformation. Consequently, the region’s IT leaders emphasize optimizing resources and increasing business agility by streamlining processes and utilizing technology.

“In response to the evolving market, businesses in the region are prioritizing digital transformation and modernizing legacy IT infrastructure. With our pocket to the cloud offerings, Lenovo ISG is well-equipped and committed to helping modern businesses achieve greater resilience while keeping cyber threats at bay,” Bhatia added.

Peter Chambers, the Managing Director of AMD Asia Pacific and Japan, emphasized the importance of staying on top of technology trends to remain competitive in today’s hyper-growth environment. “AMD has played a critical role in the transformation process of multiple organizations over the years, and we are thrilled to be a part of this joint initiative with Lenovo,” said Chambers.

Growing awareness and adoption of As-a-Service flexible models

The trend towards flexible As-a-Service models is growing in the APAC region. Lenovo released updated versions of their ThinkPad laptops, such as the Z13 and Z16, with advanced hardware and software features for creative users. Lenovo has also redesigned the X13 and X13 Yoga models to support hybrid work and mobility. Lenovo’s TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) offering provides organizations with flexible payment options and the ability to scale their IT infrastructure according to their evolving business needs.

Organizations in APAC are adopting As-a-Service infrastructure to rationalize and optimize costs, which offers flexibility and agility to ease financial burdens and invest more in business innovation. As a result, 85% of organizations in ASEAN+ either use or plan to adopt As-a-Service flexible IT infrastructure in the coming year.

The importance of hybrid/multicloud for cloud/modernized mission-critical workloads

Organizations have realized that public cloud solutions may not provide optimal application experience and performance, or alleviate the cost burden of increasing cloud workloads.

Security concerns have prompted 68% of ASEAN+ organizations to migrate workloads from the public cloud to private cloud or traditional data centers in the past 12 months. As a result, hybrid or multi-cloud environments are expected to become more prevalent in the Asia Pacific region in the next 2 to 3 years. This is because businesses in the region will continue to run over 50% of their mission-critical workloads on traditional data center infrastructure, systems, platforms, and private cloud infrastructure.

Hybrid or multi-cloud solutions offer the highest levels of performance and meet the requirements of data security and compliance.
