Modobag: Never miss a flight again with world’s first motorized luggage

THE days of lugging heavy bags across airports are over with Modobag, the world’s first rideable suitcase that allows you to sit on and ride your bag through the airport.

Travelers can sit on the “smart” battery-operated luggage and get to their airport gates three times faster than if they had to walk. Users can zip through an airport terminal up to a distance of 13 kilometers at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour. The bag can also hold weight of up to 118 kilograms.

The bag is fitted with a 200-watt electric motor and a dual braking system. If you prefer, you can also use the bag as a traditional wheeled suitcase by extending its handle and pulling it along.

Besides that, each Modobag unit comes with high-performance, sealed bearing steering column, touch control dashboard, dual USB charging ports for power on the go, LED backlighting, as well as an optional GPRS/GSM tracking system that’ll help you locate your bag with a companion iOS or Android app.

The bag was also designed to be durable and perfectly sized for overhead bins while being completely TSA, FAA, and IATA compliant. However, because of all the built-in features, the bag alone weighs about eight kilograms.

Creator Kevin O’Donnell said that Modobag could change the way people travel, and added that the idea came to him when he witnessed a couple of kids riding a carry-on bag, and he joked about motorizing it.

The company has started a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo with an aim to raise US$50,000. It has so far raised almost $200,000, with more than three weeks left to run.

However, owning a Modobag comes at a price. Each unit will be priced at US$1,295 and a separate US$69 for the mobile app. The estimated shipping date for both the luggage and the app is January 2017.
