Bundled 3G Netbook from BSNL and Olive — Is that what is needed for broadband penetration?

 

India’s long awaited 3G auction is complete. That auction made the exchequer richer by $22.7 billion dollars and deprived many telecom companies of the much needed cash. The next segment of 3G episode is the rollout, partnerships and the marketing. The companies which got their spectrum are too busy rolling their networks and setting up partnerships. Reliance Infratel which is uniquely positioned with WiMAX/LTE spectrum is partnering with Samsung for rolling out WiMax network in 22 circles. 

BSNL, the state owned telecom company,which got the spectrum much before anyone else has failed to gather much needed customers. BSNL has the spectrum but doesn’t have the technology nor the will to gather customers. Now for a change it is tying up with Olive Telecom to bundle 3G hardware with a netbook called as Zipbook

Olive Zipbook  V-X108 will be bundled with BSNL’s 3G. It costs 20,999 rupees and will run on Intel Pentium N450 processor. It has a 1.3 megapixel in-built camera and comes pre-loaded with Windows 7 operating system. BSNL will offer a free 6GB/month download for 3 months. Olive Telecom has entered the Indian space with convergence devices. It has recently launched a iPad beater called OlivePad.
