Rushing through the airport but hungry? There’s an app for that

AIRPORT food doesn’t have a great reputation, but that’s set to change with the introduction of the Middle East’s first airport delivery service by UK-based firm, Deliveroo.

The food delivery firm, which works with vendors who prepare the food, launched their service at Dubai International (DXB) and will enable hungry passengers short on time to get freshly-prepared food delivered straight to the boarding gates. According to, the program called DeliverooDXB can be accessed through the company’s app.

The company said in a statement that success of the launch in Dubai could lead Deliveroo to begin offering the service to other international airports around the world.

“Deliveroo’s mission is to provide the best food delivery experience in the world, and there is no reason why that should be limited to the home or office,” said Anis Harb, the general manager of Deliveroo in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

“Joining forces with Dubai Airports is a strategic next step for us as we continue to revolutionize the way people order restaurant food. With our riders now delivering to the gate, there is no reason to miss breakfast, lunch or dinner even when passengers may only have minutes to spare before boarding.”

Currently, only passengers in DXB Terminal 3 can order food through Deliveroo, but there are plans to make the service available to all of DXB’s concourses. Passengers can order food from a handful of participating vendors including Costa, Giraffe, Café Chocolate, Picnic, Paul Bakery & Restaurant, Pulp Juice, Carluccio’s, Le Pain Quotidien and McDonald’s.

“DeliverooDXB is a truly ground-breaking service that brings an extra level of convenience to our customers,” said Eugene Barry, the executive vice president of Dubai Airports’ Commercial and Communications group, according to ITP. 

“Our mission to completely reinvent the airport experience is rooted in implementing innovative concepts, as demonstrated by this partnership with the world’s best food delivery brand.”
