iPhone 4G – Costs $5000, has longer battery life and Apple might take it back!

We are not out of the iPad honeymoon yet and we have a new apple to bite at. Apple’s not yet released phone – iPhone 4G. Internet is a strange place and is ripe with rumors. Rumors usually take the text form. But when you add pictures or a video to a rumor noises are off.

Engadget has reviewed the iPhone 4G with a picture. Gizmodo has reviewed the iPhone 4G with a video. How did they get the pictures or the phone? No Apple did not send them a complimentary piece each. As per Gizmodo’s story they paid $5000 for iPhone 4G to a person who found the phone in a San Jose (California) bar. Name of the bar was not mentioned and chances of finding one more phone at that bar are very minimal.

Key features of iPhone 4G :

  1. MicroSIM instead of normal SIM
  2. Front facing video chat camera – yeah! Why wasn’t this done for earlier phones? So dumb to have a video chat. You either show your face or look at the video. Can’t do both.
  3. Improved display
  4. Longer battery life

The phone looks sleeker and solving more problems. Read Engadget and Gizmodo reviews.

Now Apple wants its device back. I am sure they were referring to iPhone 4G. Also this is a pseudo confirmation that the device is actually a iPhone 4G.

Apple has sent a letter to Brian Larn, Editorial director of Gizmodo (Gawker Media). Here’s the text :

Dear Mr. Larn,

It has come to our attention that GIZMODO is currently in possession of a device that belongs to Apple. This letter constitutes a formal request that you return the device to Apple. Please let me know where to pick up the unit.

I thought Gizmodo would respond asking Apple to look for the phone in the San Jose bar but they did it differently. Gizmodo has sent a letter back to Apple with details to pick up the phone. U.S. laws are little stricter. In the U.S. if anything is lost the owner has up to three years to claim it back. In India if it is lost the owner has to wait three years to get it but have to lodge a complaint immediately.

Happy to have you pick this thing up. Was burning a hole in our pockets. Just so you know, we didn’t know this was stolen [as they might have claimed. Meaning, really and truly from Apple. It was found, and to be of unproven origin] when we bought it. Now that we definitely know it’s not some knockoff, and it really is Apple’s, I’m happy to see it returned to its rightful owner.

P.S. I hope you take it easy on the kid who lost it. I don’t think he loves anything more than Apple.

Gizmodo was happy to send the phone as they got what they wanted – a confirmation from Apple that it is iPhone 4G.

PS : The actual cost of the phone, if and when it comes out will not be $5000. But you know that already.
