MWC 2012: Globe Telecom Launches iOS Mobile Payment App for GCash, Facebook Payments

Globe Telecom has announced the launch of a new mobile application for sending and receiving money through its own GCash money remittance service, at the recently-concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

This March 2012, Globe will start supporting sending and receiving of mobile payments through its iOS app. Working on compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices, the iOS app will be available for download via Apple’s iTunes Store. The download is free.

The new application will make it easier for users to do GCash transactions, including sending funds, purchasing airtime credits, paying utility bills, and other such activities. Users no longer have to memorize access numbers or keywords, since the app is touch-based.

Paolo Baltao, president of G-Xchange, Inc., which is the subsidiary that operates Globe’s GCash service says the new app sets the new standard for customer experience in the field of financial services. “The new GCASH mobile app for iPhones will make our customers enjoy doing their GCASH transactions,” he says.

With the GCash app, mobile users will simply need to type in their mobile number and mobile PIN to login and access one’s “moneybook,” which displays all transactions for the month in real-time. The app’s intuitive touch-based interface will then guide the user through the various mobile-based financial transactions available to GCash customers. Globe says the new app has a feature that lets users send money not only to other Globe users with mobile numbers, but also anyone with email or Facebook accounts.
