AMD expands engineering capabilities in Malaysia

Malaysia is already home to several international chip manufacturing and tech companies. And in recent times, some of these big tech companies have announced increased investment in the country to cater to the global demand for semiconductor chips as well as other industrial infrastructure.

For example, chip companies like Intel, Bosch, and Micron Technologies have announced plans to expand their production facilities in Malaysia. Apart from semiconductor chips, the data center market in Malaysia is growing as well. To cater to the demand, AMD has announced the launch of its Server Platform Solutions Engineering (SPSE) facility in Malaysia.

As AMD continues to make great strides in the data center and embedded solutions space, the launch of the SPSE-MY facility highlights the company’s dedication to helping to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges with industry-leading technologies. The new engineering facility in Malaysia is critical to driving next-generation capabilities for a growing customer and partner base for the company’s EPYC family of server processors.

According to Lau Wai Shin, Site Lead, AMD Server Engineering Malaysia, the Penang region has incredible engineering talent, and AMD anticipates this strategic move will be a key driver for future server engineering advancements for their customers, partners, and the broader ecosystem. He added that it is truly an exciting time to be at AMD.

Located in Penang, the new AMD SPSE Malaysia site will be capable of delivering end-to-end engineering solutions. The team will be tightly focused on design, validation, characterization, and customer enablement across AMD’s portfolio of high-performance EPYC server processors.

The AMD SPSE Malaysia facility will also work closely with customers and partners to provide both short-term and long-term solutions. By leveraging complementary strengths and areas of expertise, AMD will collaboratively find creative and effective solutions to deliver next-generation end-user experiences.
